Senior C++ Developer - SCADA Communications Specialist

JOB SUMMARY:

It is the essential function of the Senior C++ Developer to develop software that meets the product requirements and quality standards necessary to meet customer expectations. The Senior C++ Developer does this by working with their team to understand requirements, create component designs, write unit tests, and develop code.

Because this a senior position, it is expected that the Senior C++ Developer can work on varied assignments with minimal supervision. The Senior C++ Developer is expected to provide guidance to other developers, but is not expected to provide direct supervision.

A SCADA communications specialist has a strong understanding of the fundamentals of SCADA communications. This includes the protocols used (e.g., DNP3, IEC 61850, IEC101/104, Courier, SELFM, OPC, SSL/TLS, FTP) and their applications to protective relaying and other microprocessor-based devices.

A successful Senior C++ Developer at SUBNET Solutions Inc. is curious, well organized, self-motivated, and has a passion for excellence. You will need the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, traverse various tools and technologies, as well as interact with various engineering teams, and client types.

The Senior C++ Developer reports to the Substation Systems Team Lead.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate and work effectively within an Agile development team.
  • Participate in the software development lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain designed software components.
  • Create and maintain unit tests and automation tests.
  • Troubleshoot issues in both developer and production environments.
  • Provide guidance to other developers.
  • Participate in code reviews.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • BSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • Expert understanding of legacy C++, preferred knowledge of modern C++.
  • Expert understanding of network communications programming, preferred knowledge of ASIO.
  • Strong understanding in SCADA communications, automation, and system integration. Protocols includes DNP3, IEC 61850, IEC101/104, Courier, SELFM, OPC, etc.
  • Strong understanding of unit testing, preferred Microsoft C++ Unit Test Framework.
  • Proficient understanding of software development patterns and practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Keen attention to detail.

Preferred

  • Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio C++ 2019 and above.
  • Experience with Git.
  • Experience with Boost ASIO or Networking TS.
  • Experience with Coroutine.
  • Experience with SSL/TLS and FTP programming.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs and modern web frameworks.
  • Microsoft Certification (MCP) or equivalent certification in relevant programs.
