North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) | February 16, 2009
The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) announced today that Timothy E. Roxey will be joining NERC as the Manager of Critical Infrastructure Protection. The move comes as part of the organization’s continuing efforts to strengthen its critical infrastructure protection program.
In this newly created position, Roxey will work closely with Chief Security Officer Michael Assante to develop and execute key critical infrastructure protection initiatives, such as NERC’s cyber security risk preparedness evaluation and continuous risk assessment. Roxey will act as a key coordination point for North American government officials and will take on an important leadership role in the Electricity Sector Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ES-ISAC) activities. Roxey will officially begin at NERC on February 23.
Roxey is a widely recognized leader in the fields of security and infrastructure protection, presently serving as Deputy Chair of the Nuclear Sector Coordinating Council and Chairman of its Cyber Security Sub-Council. Roxey has spent over 25 years in the nuclear power industry, 17 of those with Constellation Energy. He has over 30 years of computer related experience, was a lead author on the Nuclear Sector’s cyber security standards, and is former Chairman of the Nuclear Information Technology Strategic Leadership’s (NITSL) standing committee on cyber security. Roxey has also worked in the physical security realm, helping design security system architectures for the next generation of nuclear power in America.
“Accepting this position with NERC has offered me the opportunity to help ensure that the bulk power system in North America remains as reliable and secure as possible,” commented Roxey. “I look forward to working closely with the many experts in the NERC community and Canadian, Mexican, and U.S. governments as the organization further expands its cyber security and critical infrastructure protection program.”
“The leadership and expertise Tim brings to NERC will be a great asset to our team,” commented Michael Assante, Chief Security Officer at NERC. “We are pleased to bring him on board.”
