All over the world, changes in the way electricity is generated and distributed are leading to major changes in the power grid.
In Germany, many studies are being carried out in order to identify the technological and regulatory measures that are necessary for ensuring security of the supply of electricity being distributed.
"Electricity grids will undergo massive changes in the coming years and decades," says Dr. Royth V. Hahn, project manager in charge of the study at the Office of Technology Assessment at the German Bundestag.
The study expects to highlight options for the transformation and operation of electricity grids that will be developed in the future.
"Security and reliability of the electricity supply are critical and must be maintained or even improved throughout the transformation of our present electricity grids into the power grids of the future," Hahn added.
In North America, utilities must comply to NERC CIP requirements to ensure security when installing smart grid systems.
SUBNET Solutions Inc., a leading solutions provider that specializes in substation automation and remote access, can help utilities comply with such stringent standards when beginning their smart grid rollout.
