In the past week, several smart grid projects have taken off, including energy efficiency initiatives, remote access technology, substation automation systems and load control projects.
According to Smart Grid News, new improvements are appearing all over the country. Siemens Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical North American group was recently awarded three projects that will display the myriad capabilities of the company's new distributed controls system.
Constellation Energy has also announced new programs, including a load response system for Montana-Dakota Utilities Company's electric service companies in South Dakota, North Dakota and Montana.
In California, three of the state's major utilities are collaborating to allow energy data to be accessed by customers to better regulate energy usage.
Pacific Gas & Electric, Southern California Edison and San Diego Gas & Electric aim to achieve the goal by the end of 2011, said Chris King, chief regulatory officer of eMeter.
As more utilities enter into the smart grid, SUBNET Solutions, Inc. is set to help companies comply with emerging cyber security standards and offer expertise in substation automation and remote access.
