SUBNET recently participated in the Western Power Delivery Automation Conference, which wrapped up on Thursday, March 29, after three days of events.

The conference was held to discuss the issues of power utility automation and control, and discussed papers that were written on several aspects of the smart grid, network and communications, cyber security, control and automation and more.

A keynote presentation was given by Scott Milanowski, director of grid intelligence for Oklahoma Gas and Electric. Milanowski discussed OG&E's relationship with the smart grid, and how the company is deploying distribution automation, integrated volt/var control and DMS systems. Milanowski, who is responsible for process and organizational development of smart grid deployment, also presented on OG&E's effort to successfully procure a $130 million DOE Smart Grid Investment Grant.

At the event, SUBNET was on hand to show how the power delivery automation community can benefit from sharing knowledge of what works well, and the paths that can be taken to ensure an efficient deployment.

Other topics covered at the event included engineering and project management and SCADA and wide area measurements.
